MEXICO 2008

In April 2008, Anna led a group of 11 students to San Jose del Cabo on a humanatarian trip. We spend the year fundraising, learning Spanish, studying pre-columbian Hispanic culture, Mexican history, geography, and art. While in the Bajo area, we worked with Amigos de los Ninos, an organization that serves vulnerable children and families in that area. We helped build a shade structure at a handicap school, and brought much needed supplies to the teachers. We  worked with a young paralized woman, helping her build a used clothing business so she can support herself. We also painted a huge mural in her room at her request. It was an amazing trip for the students and we were priveledged to be able to help.

For a few of our students it was their first time on a plane and first time away from home. The students were amazing, they worked hard, supported one another, and were a joy to be with.

Amigos de los Ninos monthly yard sale. Proceeds benefit the local community schools. We helped organize donations.

The yard sale was over in less than one hour.
Everything was quickly scooped up at $1 an item.

We spend one day working with the students at the school.
They had a relay play day planned and we had
a great day playing and making new friends.

One of the best parts of this day was the music and dancing!

Bamboo needed to be cleaned and stripped
for the roof of the shade structure.

Sanding the structure in preparation for the wood sealant.

Students helped build a shelving system for Claudia and
helped Anna block in color. The boys left at 4pm.

We had a very nice lunch break with Claudia and the gang.

Students and carpentar after their work day ended at 4pm.
Anna stayed until 9pm. the mural had to be
completed in 3 hours the next day.

On Friday, we returned to Claudia's to finsih the mural, help her sort and organize her clothing, played with children in the neighborhood and spend time visiting with our new friends.

We say goodbye to Claudia and take with us hand prints of the children in the neighborhood.
